Causes of Diabetic Stroke: Chronic elevated blood glucose levels can contribute to buildup of plaque in blood vessels. Plaque sticks to the walls of blood vessels and can interfere with the blood flow; this impaired blood flow can lead to stroke. For people with diabetes, the important thing to do to help reduce the risk of a stroke risk is to keep blood sugar within the target range. Controlling your blood glucose level should help minimize plaque buildup.
