2009 JDRF Family Connections
Outreach Program

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 *Bowling Night
This event, hosted by the Family Council, is solely a networking opportunity for families. JDRF will give families the opportunity to meet one another and share experiences through the conduit of JDRF.
Families will be asked to pay a nominal fee to cover hard costs of event.

Tuesday, May 19,2009 *Outlying Area
JDRF will host an educational event in Topeka in conjunction with CMH. We will host a lunch and CMH will provide the speaker. The goal of this event is to provide networking for the families in this area, provide an educational component and leave families with tactical management tools to support in their daily lives. We will also have a chance to introduce our Networking Coffee group that is
formed in Topeka.

June 10, 2009 *Networking Event
This is our graduation dinner, hosted in someone’s home. High School sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited, however only seniors will be recognized. A CMH doc or psychologist will lead the discussions and past graduates will be invited to share their experiences.

August 23, 2009 *Networking Event
This will be in conjunction with our Family Team Rally at Paradise Park.
September 2009 *School Nurse Event This dinner will be centered on caring for type 1 diabetics. Pharmaceutical companies will have a chance to demonstrate their products and provide instruction for their devices. A doc from CMH will
give a short presentation on whatever the needs of school nurses might be. Families will be encouraged to invite their school nurse to this event. A survey will be distributed to the school nurses prior to the meeting with questions they wish to get answered.

September 8, 2009 *Outlying Area
Back to School night in St. Joe. Taking diabetes back to school will be the theme for our outlying area event. CMH will provide a doc for the main session; different table topics will be available for families to meet one another. We will also introduce the Networking Coffee group that will take place in St. Joe.

November 2009 *Research Event
JDRF will bring in a scientist for JDRF donors.

February 2010 *Research Event
*Sheraton Hotel/Co Co Key Water Resort
This event will be a JDRF research update presented by a JDRF researcher. A Kids Zone will be in place as well as a break-out room for a teenage panel, all during the research presentation. Table topics will be distributed during a box lunch. We will use Co Co Key for an optional activity for families that Sunday afternoon (at their expense).
