As a result of nationwide restraint in research funding, the American Diabetes Association has implemented a temporary change in applicant eligibility to some of our research grant programs. The purpose of this change is to support young and established investigators who are at a higher level of need in order to maintain their research.

Please note this interim change ONLY affects the following grant programs: Basic Science Award, Clinical/Translational Award, Innovation Award, Junior Faculty Award and Career Development Award.

Investigators with personal grant funding (identified as Principal Investigator on non-profit foundation, governmental, or investigator-initiated pharmaceutical/industrial grants) exceeding $500,000 per year at the time of application are not eligible to apply to the research grant programs listed above.

Multi-center and industry-sponsored clinical trial grants, and grants in which the investigator serves in a role other than Principal Investigator, are excluded from the calculation of the $500,000 cap. Accurate representation of all current grant funding, including designation of PI or other capacity, for all other support must be included on the "All Sources of Support" page of the application.
