DCH Diabetes Center

DCH Regional Medical Center

The DCH Diabetes Center, a Recognized Education Program by the American Diabetes Association, serves as an education and resource facility for people with diabetes and their families. The DCH Diabetes Center is located in the DCH Annex, 600 Bryant Drive, East, across from DCH Regional Medical Center. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The DCH Diabetes Center provides training by nurses and nutritionists in self-management skills for people with diabetes. These skills include control of blood sugar, prevention of diabetes complications and improved self-care skills.

The two most common types of diabetes are known as Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Anyone can develop diabetes, but you have a greater risk if:

* You are overweight.
* You are female.
* You are over the age of 45.
* You don’t exercise regularly.
* You have a family history of diabetes.
* You are African-American.
* You are a woman who has had a baby weighing nine pounds or more at birth.

Diabetes Lifestyle is a series of four classes offered at the DCH Diabetes Center that focuses on goals for diabetes management. In each class session, participants review key concepts for diabetes management, weigh-in, evaluate progress with goals and control of blood sugar and set new behavioral goals. This series is offered in day or evening classes.

Physician referral is required. For more information about diabetes or about services offered at the DCH Diabetes Center, call (205)750-5260.
