Made available to facilitate access by pregnant diabetic patients to the University of New Mexico diabetes in Pregnancy Program. The program is committed to provide complete education in all aspects of diabetes in pregnancy together with comprehensive diabetic and obstetric care.

Program Objective

Our primary goal is to improve perinatal outcome in patients with overt and gestational Diabetes Mellitus. This objective is best accomplished by the use of a multidisciplinary team approach to provide care for pregnant women.
Our Team...

Is comprised of, but not limited to, the following health professionals:

* Obstetrician
* Perinatologist
* Diabetes Program coordinator
* Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
* Registered Dietitian
* Social worker
* Nurse Case Manager
* Obstetrical Nurse
* Registered Pharmacist

Referrals are available for:

* Preconceptional Counseling
* Management for complex type 1, Type 2, and Gestational diabetes
* Diabetes Education
* Medical Nutrition therapy
* Insulin initiation and teaching
* Insulin pump initiation/management
* Support Services
* Financial Information
* Intensive Statewie home monitoring management services

Gestational Diabetes class:

* Instruction by an RN, CDE/RD, CDE
* Bilingual class (English/Spanish)
* Overview of Gestational Diabetes with video
* Complications associated with GDM
* Nutrition counseling and meal planning
* Use and care of the glucose meter
* Gestational Diabetes booklet
* Provision of supplies such as glucometer, lancets, strips if needed

Diabetes Clinic:

* Initial perinatal Consults
* Patient specific insulin dosing
* Intensive glucose control
* Fetal Growth Scans
* Fetal Evaluation
* Non-stress testing
* Bio physical profile Scoring
* Coordination of Care
* Optimal timing and Mode of delivery
* Postspartum Evaluation
* Alternative Treatments

Continuous Dialogue with Physician

* Early pregnancy ultrasound
* Nuchal translucency screening
* Triple screen (AFP)
* Non-stress Testing (NST)
* Biophysical Profile Testing
* Obstetrical Doppler Examination
* High Risk Pregnancy Consultations
