Transplantation and Diabetes: Diabetes damage can sometimes require a kidney transplant, pancreas transplant, islet cell transplant or stem cell transplant. When kidneys fail, a kidney transplantation can replace it to clean the blood. The islet cells in the pancreas do not produces insulin in people with type 1 diabetes. Islet cell transplantation or pancreas transplantation are options. Stem cell transplants are another option.
