Causes of Diabetic Hyperglycemia: Hyperglycemia is also referred to as high blood glucose or high blood sugar. Carbohydrates are the main source of dietary glucose. When a meal contains more glucose than is necessary for body functions, it is stored as glycogen. If the body can’t handle the excess glucose, high blood sugar levels occur causing a need for medical intervention. A low fat, low cholesterol, low carbohydrate diet, along with regular exercise and a regular glucose tolerance test or fasting glucose test may help to reduce chances of developing Hyperglycemia.
