Program Description:
Camp Sioux is a residential camping program for children ages 8-14 living with diabetes designed and sponsored by the American Diabetes Association. Programs encourage independence and self management with appropriate medical supervision to ensure the best possible experience for every camper. Nutrition activities, blood glucose monitoring, and injections/medications are integrated into the camp program.

Camp Sioux is staffed by physicians and nurses with a special interest in diabetes, dietitians, psychologists, and counselors with diabetes who understand the children's needs and are strong role models.

Camp Sioux is held at Park River Bible Camp in Park River, ND. Facilities include a health center, dining hall, crafts building, basketball court, sand volleyball court, nature trails, soccer field, archery range, rope course and a swimming pool with a 220' foot waterslide.

Camper Ages: 8-14

Leadership Development Program (LDP) for 15 years old
The Leadership Development Program (LDP) is a one-week program for you to develop confidence and leadership skills. As a LDP not only will you help out the camp in various areas you will get to spend time as a group doing team building and leadership activities which will help you in the future as a Camp Sioux CIT.

Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program for 16 and 17 year olds
The purpose of the Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program is to prepare you for a future camp counselor position. The one-week program teaches you skills for working with children and builds personal confidence in dealing with your diabetes and with others, no matter what the situation.

If you would like to apply for the CIT program please call or email the ADA office for an application packet. Upon receipt of your application you will receive a phone interview with the Camp Director. All applicants will be interviewed.

If you are selected for the program, you will participate in all activities at Camp Sioux, practicing new skills and fine-tuning present ones. In addition to the camp dates, CIT's are required to participate in training activities with the rest of the Camp Sioux staff on June 8th and 9th for first session or June 15th and 16th for second session.
