The University of Wyoming chapter of Cardinal Key is hosting its annual fundraising banquet for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. JDRFI is the largest researcher in the world working to find a cure for Type-I diabetes.

Cardinal Key is a national honor society for students of at least junior status who are leaders in the college community and who are deemed potential leaders in the future. The purpose of Cardinal Key is to honor and inspire leadership in others as well as develop worthy character.

The JDRFI banquet will be held in the Wyoming Union Ballroom on Feb. 28. Doors open at 5 p.m. and a dinner catered by Altitude Chophouse and Brewery will be served at 6 p.m.

Banquet events include a live and silent auction with items donated from local and regional businesses, a performance by the Happy Jacks singers and testimonials from people directly affected by diabetes. Tickets are $25 and dress is business formal.

Brittany Epler, a junior in accounting, and Bailey Loghry, a junior in business administration, are serving as co-chairs of the event.

“We became involved in Cardinal Key at the recommendation of a friend and decided to take on this office because it is such a great cause that affects so many families, we felt that we could take on the position and make it a success, and to make a difference,” Epler said.

Epler and Loghry have been planning this event since August and Cardinal Key members have been selling tickets and collecting donations since December.

“This year’s theme is Lights, Camera, Cure! We hope that it will be a great success in raising money for the foundation. We will also be selling buttons up until the night of the event for students and faculty to buy at $3 each as an extra fundraiser for JDRFI as well as to let the community know about the event,” Cardinal Key member Hannah Benigno said.

“This year we would like to raise an even higher amount for JDRFI and need the support of both the UW students and faculty, as well as the Laramie community to make that a possibility,” Epler said.

This event is open to anyone and tickets are available through any Cardinal Key member. Cardinal Key members will be selling the JDRFI buttons in the Wyoming Union Breezeway Feb. 17-19 and Feb. 24-26 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
