Diabetes Self-Management Program

The Diabetes Self-Management Clinic is a partnership between Crittenden Regional Hospital and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences subsidiary, Delta Area Health Education Center - North.

The program is a combination of services aimed at controlling and reducing the complications associated with diabetes among citizens of Crittenden County and neighboring communities. The program accomplishes this goal by providing Diabetes Self Management Training and communicating information to the public about diabetes through public health education programs.

Diabetes Self-Management Training provides overall guidance related to all aspects of diabetes. The training is designed to increase the participant's knowledge about the disease and explains to them how they can exercise control over their own health.

The training consists of diabetes instruction in the following areas: disease process; nutrition; meal planning; monitoring; exercise; medications; behavior changes; and prevention of short-term and long-term complications; risk management and goal setting.

The training is divided up into three classes which can be taken in any order. One class is taught by a Registered Dietician and focuses on nutrition. The other two focus on medical components of diabetes and are taught by a Registered Nurse.

For more information about Diabetes Self-Management Training, please feel free to contact the Delta AHEC North office at 870. 735.5527.
