UCD DERC Funding Opportunities
DERC Pilot and Feasibility Project Program
The DERC P&F Program is a key component of the DERC and aims to draw new investigators in to the field, to foster innovative diabetes-related research in UCD and its affiliated institutions and to increase awareness within the academic and lay community to the importance of research into the prevention, treatment and cure of diabetes. It aims also to promote technology transfer between established groups and encourage multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary effort that crosses the normal boundaries imposed by divisions and departments within the university.
Guidelines for P&F Support
The P&F program aims to foster new faculty without current or past NIH research support as a principal investigator to conduct research in major areas of interest in type 1 and 2 diabetes. It also supports established investigators from other fields with no previous work in diabetes to apply their knowledge and expertise to diabetes-related issues and to support diabetes-related innovative high-risk projects that could not be funded normally through the usual granting agencies. Awards can be held for up to two years but only one grant is available per applicant within the tenure of the DERC. Grants will normally be of one-year duration in the first instance and provide only direct costs of $50,000 that may include personal salary (usually less than 20%), salary for support staff, supplies, patients and other costs. There will be no indirect costs with these P&F grants. Neither are they intended to be supplement to other grants.
