Dear Readers,
When my business partner Scott King and I started the radio show ÏDiabetes on the DialÓ in 1990, we wanted to fill a gap weÌd perceived in the information pipeline. We, and the rest of the diabetes community in San Francisco, didnÌt have direct and quick access to cutting-edge information from the worldÌs diabetes experts. Today, diabetes patients, caregivers and researchers worldwide recognize Diabetes Health magazine as the essential resource for living long and well with diabetes.
Getting from there to here hasnÌt always been easy. Our success has been, in many ways, unique. One reason for our success is the people who work with us. There is a difference at Diabetes Health magazine that you donÌt often find in publishing: Diabetes touches the lives of every one who works here - some directly, and some indirectly. The common goal keeps us going. Another unique factor is your feedback and encouragement. You tell us what you need and want to know. And we listen.
The industry is taking notice of our achievements. In 2003, Diabetes Health magazine was a finalist for a ÏMaggieÓ award for Best Publication in the Health, Beauty and Fitness category. The Maggie competition, sponsored annually by Western Publications Association, honors excellence in magazines published west of the Mississippi River. The others in our category were Muscle & Fitness, Shape, Spa and Yoga Journal. It was an honor to compete with such prestigious competitors.
ItÌs gratifying to note the growth and development of our company and of Diabetes Health magazine. With diabetes an epidemic in the 21st century, we plan to continue our mission. Our new name, new design, new features and new Web site reflect our commitment to bring you the most current and useful information about diabetes every single month.
Sincerely,
Nadia Al-Samarrie
