TARGET AUDIENCE
The sessions offered at the Annual Advanced Postgraduate Course have been designed specifically for physicians, doctors of osteopathy, family physicians, podiatric physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, pharmacists, psychologists, certified diabetes educators and other health care professionals who care for patients with diabetes and who manage the complications related to this disease.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Evaluate recent clinical data on target levels for A1C and post-prandial glucose
Review current treatment options for type 2 diabetes and assess data related to changing or discontinuing a medication
Evaluate pro and con data on whether the use of SMBG or CGM improves patient outcomes
Discuss the results of and the implications for the LOOK AHEAD study and the implications of reducing BMI, including the role of micronutrients in weight loss
Evaluate issues related to mental health and diabetes, and develop treatment strategies that focus on depression and eating disorders
Describe the role of gut hormones in diabetes, and assess treatment options beyond GLP-1 on the horizon
Evaluate innovative strategies to improve diabetes care and outcomes with a focus on psychosocial barriers, patient-provider communication and diabetes performance measures
Discuss the results of recent studies on the links between inflammation and diabetes and bone disease and diabetes, and the implications for clinical practice
Review data from current research on the progress toward reversing type 1 diabetes
Discuss the pros and cons of the use of bariatric surgery for patients with diabetes, and, if appropriate, assess when to refer
Explain the relationship between hypertension and diabetes and describe new treatment options and approaches for application to clinical practice
