Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain are the most commonly reported Janumet side effects. These side effects are typically minor, but some problems may be more serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. Seek prompt medical attention if you develop serious side effects of Janumet, such as signs of an allergic reaction or symptoms of high or low blood sugar.

An Introduction to Janumet Side Effects
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Janumet? (sitagliptin and metformin); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can be easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Janumet. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Janumet side effects with you.)

Common Janumet Side Effects
Janumet has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which a group of people taking the drug have side effects documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine. This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

In these studies, the most common side effects of Janumet included:

* Diarrhea -- in up to 2.4 percent of people
* Abdominal pain (stomach pain) -- up to 2.2 percent
* Nausea -- up to 1.3 percent
* Vomiting -- up to 1.1 percent

Serious Janumet Side Effects
Some side effects with Janumet, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:

* Symptoms of high blood sugar, such as:
o Increased hunger
o Increased thirst
o Increased urination
o Blurred vision
o Fatigue
o Shortness of breath
o Nausea or vomiting

* Symptoms of low blood sugar (which can occur if Janumet is taken with other diabetes drugs), such as:
o Sweating
o Shakiness
o Extreme hunger
o Dizziness
o Cold sweats
o Blurry vision
o Changes in behavior, such as irritability
o Loss of coordination
o Difficulty speaking
o Confusion
o Seizures

* Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
o Unexplained skin rash
o Itching
o Hives
o Wheezing or difficulty breathing
o Unexplained swelling.

Final Thoughts on Janumet Side Effects
You may experience some or none of the Janumet side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of Janumet, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.

Only your doctor can tell you how much Metformin and how many times a day you need to take. Do not take more or less of it

than what your doctor has prescribed. Metformin controls diabetes but does not cure it. Continue to take metformin even if

you feel well. Do not stop taking metformin without talking to your doctor.

Not everyone who takes metformin is a Type 2 diabetic. Metformin may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor for more

information regarding this.
