Biguanides for Diabetes: Biguanides are a class of drugs prescribed to manage blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 Diabetes. Brand names include Metaglip, Glucophage, Glucophage XR, Glucovance, and Avandamet; they are also available in generic forms as glipizide and metformin, metformin, metformin and glyburide, and rosiglitazone. Even with the use of these medications, diabetics need to make sure their blood sugar levels are kept at an acceptable level by using a blood glucose meter or blood sugar monitor. These drugs may also be prescribed for people with pre-diabetes.
