Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that only occurs in pregnant women. It is a very common type of diabetes and it is very important that pregnant women with gestational diabetes control their diabetic symptoms and blood sugar levels, usually through diabetic diet and exercise, both for their own health and that of their unborn babies. Gestational diabetes may also make a woman more susceptible to Type I and Type II Diabetes in later years, according to some research.
