2009 Rachmiel Levine Diabetes and Obesity Symposium: Advances in Diabetes Biology, Immunology and Cell Therapy
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, Anaheim, California, USA
March 19-21, 2009

Each year the City of Hope Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism holds an annual diabetes and obesity symposium in memory of the late Dr. Rachmiel Levine, the scientist responsible for clarifying the nature of insulin action.

The 9th Annual Rachmiel Levine Symposium, entitled Advances in Diabetes Biology, Immunology and Cell Therapy, will be held March 18-21, 2009 at Disney’s Grand California Hotel® & Spa in Anaheim, California. The program will present topics on islet development and regeneration, beta cell survival and death, the genetics of diabetes, the immunology of type 1 diabetes (pathogenesis, modulation and inflammatory beta cell destruction), normal and abnormal control of islet cell function, new advances in type 2 diabetes (pathogenesis and complications), c-peptide and diabetes, advances in islet transplantation technologies and the future of the artificial pancreas (closed-loop systems for insulin delivery). In addition to the wide range of diabetes and islet transplantation topics that will be covered, several other key features will be incorporated into this year's program, such as:

Islet Preparation workshops designed to illustrate the preparation and quality assessment techniques of islet cells for transplantation.
An oral presentation session that will allow select young investigators to present their data.
A special lecture and dinner presentation during the first evening of the program.
A poster session for both young and established investigators to present new and exciting data.
