Candida causing emphysematous pyelonephritis: a rare complication of diabetes mellitus

Abstract
Emphysematous pyelonephritis is an acute necrotising parenchymal and perlrenal
infiltration by gas producing uropathogens. This is a rare complication of diabetes mellitus with a mortality rate of 80 % in severe cases. We report a case of bilateral emphysematous pyelonephritis in a 56 year old diabetic lady. Her cultures grew Candida a rare causative organism.
