Circle of Life Mission
To provide the fundamental age-appropriate diabetes education, medical and psychological treatment, and social support essential for children and adolescents to properly manage their diabetes and cope with their disease.
Values
The organization recognizes the importance of a therapeutic environment where children learn about their diabetes, how to properly manage it, how to cope with a chronic medical disease, and assimilate it into their busy lifestyle. Many children have difficulty with the adjustment to a chronic illness, which can reduce quality of life, strain social relationships, and affect school performance, creating more psychological and physical health problems. It is with this in mind that we are dedicated to the mission of the Circle of Life Center.
Vision
We are committed to providing a year-round center for treatment, education, and recreation for children with diabetes and their families. Due to the exponentially increasing number of children with diabetes and demand for these services, the Circle of Life Camp, Inc., plans to purchase a parcel of land to build our own facility. The Circle of Life Camp will become part of Circle of Life Center, which will include the camp and a residential treatment facility for children with diabetes on the same site. This will allow us to offer more children the opportunity to participate in a therapeutic camping experience among other children with diabetes in the summer, as well as weekend retreats throughout the year. The year-round residential treatment facility would offer children with diabetes the medical, psychological, and social support they need to manage their disease, cope with it and the demands of adolescence, and overcome psychological problems, while receiving the education they need to maintain their academic standing in school. The Circle of Life Center, the first one of its kind in the world, will be able to help thousands of children each year, so that when they grow up, they will be happy, healthy, productive members of society instead of a burden on our healthcare system.
Circle of Life Center
We are fundraising to expand the current Circle of Life Camp into a comprehensive Circle of Life Center. The Center will include:
* A permanent site for the Camp that would offer year-round programming, as well as a residential treatment facility for children struggling to manage their diabetes.
* The Residential Treatment Facility would offer children with diabetes the medical, psychological, and social support they need to manage their disease, cope with it and the demands of adolescence, and overcome psychological problems while receiving the education to maintain their academic standing in school.
Our effort to build the Center is critical to the exponential number of children diagnosed with diabetes each year. In addition to the already challenging normal developmental processes of growing up, children with diabetes have to balance the daily demands of disease-management into their lives. Unfortunately, many youngsters have difficulty coping with this chronic disease and can suffer physical and psychological complications.
The Circle of Life Center, which will be the only one of its kind in the world, will be able to help thousands of children each year, so that when they grow up, they will be happy, healthy, productive members of society instead of a burden on our healthcare system.
