Community Outreach
During the month of December, staff members of NSDC's Reno Office collected non-perishable food items to be donated to Evelyn Mount’s Community Outreach Program to feed families in need over the holiday season. NSDC's Northern Nevada Closing Manager Stephanie Morris personally delivered our donation to Evelyn Mount along with other members AGC (Associated General Contractors) Community Awareness Committee. In total 7 cubic yards of food where donated to the Community Outreach Program. The food was delivered in the bucket of a loader donated by Q & D Construction. AGC's Community Awareness Committee Chairman Craig Lindgren, dressed as Santa, also presented Evelyn with a $250 gift certificate to Sack N Save Foods for the food drive. This year's food drive was a huge success and helped thousands throughout the community.

Three Square is the valley's food hub; a central location where donated and rescued food can be collected and distributed. They provide bakery, produce, dairy, non-perishable products and ready-to-eat meals to non-profit and faith-based organizations. Three Square also facilitates childhood and senior nutrition programs and holds as a place for members of the community to meet, serve and collaborate as part of the food solution. Three Square is a community collaborative partnership with governmental entities, the media, hundreds of volunteers, food distributors, schools, the gaming industry, businesses, and other non-profit agencies, which now includes Nevada State Development Corporation, to efficiently and effectively serve hope to the hungry.
During the month of November, staff members of NSDC's Las Vegas Office, thought of how nice it would be to give back to those who don't have the opportunity to have a nice Thanksgiving meal. We contacted the local Three Square organization and decided to start a food drive to help them achieve their goal of serving 10 Million meals served to the hungry, just in 2008. By cleaning out the kitchens in our homes, the office breakroom, and picking up additional items while shopping for ourselves, we gathered over 180 lbs of food and personal hygeine products. Three Square is a very generous organization and NSDC will remain as their partner
WALK FOR THE CURE
The Juvenielle Diabetes Research Foundation is a leader in setting the agenda for diabetes research worldwide, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of Type 1 research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes,which strikes children and adults suddenly, JDRF has awarded more than $1.3 billion to diabetes research, with the help of Chapter Volunteers and Staff.
The JDRF Nevada Chapter is proudly to have committed over $2.6 million to diabetes research and provide educational information and support to newly diagnosed individuals and their families. The Nevada Chapter hosts two major fundraising events during the year, one being The Walk to Cure Diabetes. It is the fastest growing event in the history of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Diana Storo, Vice President and Credit Administrator of Nevada State Development Corporation, recently became an active member of JDRF. Generating a team of 20 walkers which included: NSDC staff members and their familymembers, friends, and a littlehelp from our adorable 4-legged friends, Diana led us as Team Captain and joined thousands to Walk for the Cure. We raised over $1000 by asking our family and friends to sponsor us. We will continue to show our support and participate in events to help make a difference in the fight to cure diabetes!
