outh-East Regional Health Authorityƌs Diabetes Education Centre is a free outpatient clinic that provides individual consultations as well as group classes. Diabetes nurse educators, dietitians specializing in diabetes, pharmacists and social workers are available by referral to provide information on managing diabetes.



The Centre educates people newly diagnosed with diabetes with the basics, and also offers follow-up modules which include topics such as:

How and what to eat to maintain a healthy body weight and keep blood sugars under control
*
The important role of regular exercise
*
Understanding medications
*
Making lifestyle changes
*
Learning how to read food labels

Monthly educational seminars that run in conjunction with the YMCA are available for people wanting to learn more about the prevention and management of diabetes. The opportunity to meet with a wellness coach to develop a personal fitness plan is also available.
