BANGOR, Maine -- Actor Jerry Mathers, who starred in the hit TV series "Leave It To Beaver," is wrapping up a tour of Maine to promote diabetes awareness and options for help in obtaining free or cut-rate medicines.
During a stop Tuesday at Nicky's Diner in Bangor, Mathers said he has diabetes and knows from experience that chronic disease can be managed with prescription drugs. He said patients who fail to take their prescribed medicines are going to get worse.
Mathers' two-day bus tour also included stops in Aroostook County and Lewiston. It was put on by the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, a group funded by the drug industry to call attention to patient assistance programs that can provide free or nearly free drugs to the needy.
