Maintaining eye health and good vision are major concerns for many type 2 diabetics, and one study affirmed the need for concern. According to research published in the journal Ophthalmology, type 2 diabetes is responsible for a significant majority of cases of the most common form of glaucoma nationwide. Based on data from more than 76,000 adult patients, the study estimated that 60-70% of diagnoses of primary open-angle glaucoma, or POAG, are directly linked to type 2 diabetes. Researchers found that diabetics were significantly more likely to develop POAG even when other factors such as smoking, alcohol intake and a family history of glaucoma were taken into account
