MA Coalition of School-Based Health Centers

Welcome to the MA Coalition of School-Based Health Centers!

The MA Coalition of School-Based Health Centers is the statewide organization leading the movement to put healthcare where kids spend the majority of their time – in schools. The Coalition provides a central voice, advocating for SBHC’s, and facilitating knowledge sharing among SBHC’s.

What is a School-Based Health Center?
School-based health centers are like a doctor’s office. With parents’ permission, the health centers provide basic quality health care services such as immunizations and vaccines, asthma and diabetes management, nutrition advice, oral health services, and mental health services including screening and treatment for depression and suicide prevention. School-based health center clinicians make sure registered students, including those who are most vulnerable get the medical treatment they need. They give students medical attention when they need it, treating routine problems like ear infections and sore throats with timely, on-site care which helps to avoid trips to the emergency room. And school-based health center clinicians help students and their families manage significant health concerns - like asthma, diabetes and obesity – so they don’t lead to bigger problems if left untreated.
