New Glucagon Training Standards for School Personnel
New Glucagon Training Standards for School Personnel
In October 2003, Assembly Bill 942 (Leno) was approved by the Legislature and Governor and was chaptered as Education Code Section 49414.5. This legislation encouraged the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to develop performance standards for the training and supervision of school personnel in providing emergency medical assistance to pupils with diabetes suffering from severe hypoglycemia. These performance standards were developed in cooperation with the Department of Education, the California School Nurses Organization, the California Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. The California Diabetes Program was required to provide input and final approval of these training standards.
