UMC provides individualized care to pediatric patients admitted with diabetes. Our pediatric inpatient and outpatient areas utilize a multi-disciplinary team of pediatric endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators and certified insulin pump educators to provide comprehensive diabetes care to children and adolescents with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our staff is trained in pediatric diabetes issues. Our multidisciplinary team includes:

Inpatient Support

* Care and teaching facilitated by experienced, board-certified pediatric nurses and dietitians who are also certified diabetes educators: CDE
* Age-appropriate diabetes education and care
* Onsite communication with Pediatric Endocrinology Department
* Child life specialist, social worker and case manager support

Outpatient Support

* New Onset Diabetes Class scheduled within 1-2 weeks of discharge
* Monthly diabetes care classes
* Ongoing support by multidisciplinary team
