School Walk to D-Feet Diabetes
Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi
The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi has an opportunity for all students to get involved in the fight against diabetes! One step at a time, children help other children! They help send children with diabetes to camp and fund other children’s programs by participating in the D-Feet Diabetes sporting event!
Mississippi’s School Walk for Diabetes is a sporting event in which students obtain donations or pledges for their “fight against diabetes.†Schools personalize the event by developing several different programs that often coordinate with academic subjects, such as math and science.
Students walk or jog laps around their school’s track or inside the gymnasium on the designated day of the event. They keep up with the number of miles walked during a certain week during their physical education class. They hold soccer tournaments or basketball-throwing contests between students and faculty. These are just a few of the ideas that schools participating in Mississippi’s School Walk for Diabetes do during their D-Feet Diabetes event!
Mississippi’s School Walk for Diabetes not only serves as a physical-educational program, but also teaches students about the value of community service. It promotes the importance of having an active lifestyle and a well-balanced diet. Schools are teaming up to make a difference in their community as well as receiving a school bonus to benefit their P.E. program.
