Dr. Shulman:
Oh, I think much in the same way that the good dentist is able to help diagnose a variety of conditions through evaluation of gums and teeth, the clinician who evaluates sex and sexuality is able to evaluate a wide variety of other issues. I have, in fact, been able to identify a woman who ended up having multiple sclerosis who presented with no neurological findings and only presented with a rather unique situation with regard to her own sex and sexuality.

On the other side, women who are in good health are in fact not so much more likely to have a good sexual life, but in the absence of other problems have at least capability to engage in sex that is not encumbered by physical problems. The emotional issue is obviously overriding in most sexual problems and that may not have anything to do with good physical health, but clearly women who are in poor health with diabetes, vascular disease, have a greater likelihood of sexual problems.
