Yeast Infection Symptoms
Symptom Diagnosis

Yeast infection symptoms vary widely depending on the site of infection. Yeast infections are caused by the yeast Candida albicans which is a normal resident of the human body (digestive tract, skin, vagina, mouth).

It is with abnormal conditions that Candida begins to grow unchecked and can cause a significant infection.

Heat and humidity, poor hygiene, wearing non-absorbent clothing, and inflammation are some common triggers which can cause an outbreak. Use of immunosupressants, corticosteroids and antibiotic can also cause outbreaks.

Common areas of yeast infection are the genital areas, anus, mouth, vagina, armpits, and skin folds under the breasts and on the stomach.

Here the symptoms of some of more common yeast infections are covered.

Yeast infection symptoms:

* rash
* thick, white pasty residue
* white/yellow cheese-like discharge from vagina (vaginal candidiasis)
* burning, itching, redness, inflammation of vaginal area (vaginal candidiasis)
* bright red rash (skin & anal candidiasis)
* intense itch and burn (skin & anal candidiasis)
* creamy white, painful patches on mouth surface (thrush, mouth candidiasis)
* rash

Vaginal yeast infection occurs more frequently in pregnant women, obese woman, or women with diabetes or taking antibiotics.

Diagnosis is typically by physical examination and laboratory examination of scrapings taken during the examination.

Treatment of skin infections is typically with corticosteroid to kill the yeast and antifungal creams to relieve itching.

Other yeast infections are treated with alternate therapies. For instance, vaginal yeast infection is treated with a suppository or oral compound.
