Diabetes and Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors: Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors are prescribed to help manage blood sugar in Type 2 Diabetics. These drugs lower blood sugar levels by slowing or decreasing carbohydrate breakdown in the intestine. Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors include Acarbose (Precose), Miglitol (Glyset) and Voglibose. As part of a diabetes management program, diabetics need to make sure their blood sugar levels are kept at an acceptable level by using a blood glucose meter or blood sugar monitor.
